Many companies are involved in the manufacture of quality skateboards which can aid experienced players to perform multiple tricks.
These branded skateboards are considered costly by many people. Instead of these, they venture out to assemble their own skateboards with good quality materials like bearings, wheels etc. Bearings are usually made of steel or ceramic. Each of these steel bearings house around seven or eight balls which are well lubricated. These help in dispersing the weight across the skateboard and also release tension between the axle and the wheels. An efficient alternative to these steel bearings are the ceramic bearings. These were designed primarily to reduce the climatic effect. For example. Steel bearings sometimes expand in winter which can cause numerous accidents. Ceramic bearings are strong and provide a much smoother ride. These ceramic bearings are good for skaters who are willing to pay a higher price to get high quality bearings.
Size – Most of the bearings follow the 608 standard size. They generally comprise of a core measuring about 8mm with an outer diameter of 22 mm and a width measuring up to 7mm.These are the standards followed by most of the reputed industries that manufacture skateboard bearings. It is not uncommon to find a bearing which does not follow these standards .Many local manufacturers are involved in the manufacture of bearings that follow different size standards.
Ratings – The bearings used in skateboards are manufactured in accordance with the standards set forth by ABEC or The Annual Bearing Engineering Committee which is a division of the American Bearing Manufacturers Association. The standard is nothing but a measure of tolerance or the amount of variation that can be allowed in exact measurements in the manufacture of precision bearings. The ratings are in odd numbers only and vary in the range 1 to 9.Higher numbers indicate more precise dimensions and are also costlier. But some of the manufacturers are of the opinion that ABEC ratings are only meant for machines and not skateboard bearings.
